The UCSB Department of Recreation operates a number of facilities for students, staff, faculty, and community members. The Recreation Center contains two gymnasia, weight rooms, racquetball courts, a squash court, swimming pools, a pottery studio, and locker rooms.

Child/teen of current, full time UCSB student, age 17 and under are free for access during the permitted times of the academic year. Child/teen of Rec Cen Members (Annual & 3 Month Membership Only) are permitted within the facility during the same given hours as children/teens of UCSB students.

The UCSB Recreation Center opened in 1995 with 100,000 sq. ft. and has been one of the most popular spots on campus ever since. The original Rec Cen has two swimming pools, two gymnasia, two weight rooms, two squash courts, and five racquetball courts.
