If you don’t have your own bike we have bike hire available at Llyn Brenig. We have plenty of adult and child bikes as well as bike trailers to choose from.
Is Llyn Brenig man made?
Llyn Brenig is a man-made lake in north Wales. It was constructed to regulate the amount of water flowing into the River Dee, which lies to the south, and was created by damming the Afon Brenig. The reservoir also collects water from a 2,200 hectare catchment area. It is the fourth largest lake in Wales.

There’s a dirt track which goes around much of Brenig’s perimeter, but you can’t drive the whole way round.

The perfect adventure in the great outdoors, this moderate, circular walking trail around Llyn Brenig Lake is expected to take 4 hours to complete. There’s plenty of wildlife to look out for as you walk. Early mornings offer rare glimpses of deer and otters; there are red squirrels and badgers, grouse and buzzards.

About. The Brenig Trail circumnavigates Llyn Brenig through forest and along the shoreline of the lake. Most of the route runs on off-road tracks with one short section along a B-road and one climb. The route is suitable for both family cycling and for walking at 9.5 miles (15 km) long.

Please be aware that whilst SUP and kayak hire are available on the lake, self launch and open water swimming are not permitted at Llyn Brenig at the moment.

Sailing is also available, operated by the Llyn Brenig Sailing Club, just along the road from the main visitor centre. We now hire out kayaks and Stand Up Paddle Boards as well. Don’t forget! Water sports are weather dependent so please call ahead or check social media before you visit to avoid disappointment.

From Wednesday 4 August 2021 visitors to Llyn Brenig will be able to hire either a sit on kayak or stand-up paddleboard for two-hour sessions. They will also be provided with wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets, although visitors are welcome to bring their own, if they have them.

Llys y Fran has undergone an exciting major redevelopment and is now open! Outdoor activities at Llys-y-Frân Lake will include both water and land-based recreational fun. On the water, visitors can enjoy sailing, kayaking, canoeing, stand up paddle and pedal boarding.

Can you cycle around Llyn Crafnant?
Llyn Crafnant is another beautiful reservoir in the Gwydyr Forest area of the Snowdonia National Park. There’s a splendid 3 mile circular trail running around the lake with great views to the surrounding forests and Carneddau mountains.

Can you still walk around Llys y Fran?
After a major redevelopment, Llys-y-Frân Lake is now open. We are now open for you to enjoy our refurbished Visitor Centre, café, new cycle hub, mountain biking, pump skills area, walking trails, water and land activities, fishing and adventure playground.
