Can you make your own Girl Scout badge?
Launched in 2011, Girl Scouts’ Make Your Own Badge site was designed to offer girls a truly girl-led experience. With the Make Your Own option, Girl Scouts could get creative in designing a badge not already offered through our program, around a topic of particular interest to them.
What do Girl Scouts put their badges on?
The Girl Scout Way badge is a Brownie badge that goes on the front of the vest or sash. You can start placing badges on the girl’s right side of the vest, at the hemline, and work up. When you run out of room, you can place badges on the girl’s left side of the vest.
Do Girl Scouts have to earn fun patches?
Also known as “fun patches,” these are given to Girl Scouts for participating in fun events, activities and other Girl Scouting-related programs. Unlike badges, girls don’t usually need to fulfill any requirements to get a patch. (FYI, patches always go on the back of the uniform.)
What are fun patches?
Girl Scout fun patches are a way for the girls in your troop to express themselves. Typically, fun patches require an activity to be earned, but some fun patches do not have a specific activity attached to it. For example, if a girl’s mother is the troop’s leader, she can wear the “My Mom is a Leader” fun patch.
Why do brownies fly up?
Why is it called “Flying Up”? Brownie leaders used to be called Brown Owls. When Brownie Girl Scouts moved up to the next level, their Brown Owl would give them one of her feathers so they could “fly” up. Brownie Wings were first used as a symbol of bridging in 1927 and they are still a sign of bridging to this day.
Do you have to earn Girl Scout fun patches?
Remember that fun patches have no specific requirements, they are meant to mark an experience and to ensure girls take a moment to reflect on their accomplishments (an essential part of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience).
Why do Girl Scouts shake with left hand?
The Girl Scout handshake is the way many Girl Guides and Girl Scouts greet each other. They shake their left hands while making the Girl Scout sign with their right hand. The left-handed handshake represents friendship because the left hand is closer to the heart than the right.
