What is Hi-Tek bullet coating?

Hi-Tek Super Coat molecularly bonds to the bullet during the curing process, totally encapsulating the bullet. The coating prevents lead to bore contact and virtually eliminates lead fouling and the smoke normally associated with traditional wax type lubricants.

How much does it cost to powder coat bullets?

Add 1 teaspoon of powder for the first load if you have new BB’s and container. Remember that less powder is better as you can always add more. 1/2 teaspoon is more than enough for next batches. Close the lid and swirl like crazy for 30 seconds, then shake fairly hard up and down for another 30 seconds.

Why do you need to powder coat bullets?

Powder Coating (PC) is simply the process of treating your cast bullets with a baked-on polymer coating. This coating acts as the bullets’ lubricant as it travels down the bore of your gun. For 25 years I sized/lubed my cast bullets traditionally on an RCBS Lube-A-Matic II.

What is Hi Tek 2 Extreme coating?

Hi-Tek 2-Extreme Coating from J&M Specialized Products P/L. THIS IS THE NEW POWDERED 2-EXTREME HEAT-CURED SUPERCOAT AND DOES NOT REQUIRE HAZMAT SHIPPING. No lead is exposed to the environment. Leading of the bore is dramatically reduced, as is lube smoke. Higher velocities can be attained with coated bullets.

Are moly coated bullets better?

Overall, moly coated bullets show accuracy reduction more than anything else. When it comes to a bullet traveling down a rifle barrel, the less lubrication, the better as it can cause blockages. However, by working up a load that can be reproduced consistently, moly or no moly, performance is the same over and over.

Does powder coating bullets prevent leading?

Coated bullets offer several advantages for handloaders. Coatings that cover the entire bullet, including the base, reduce or eliminate the exposure to lead during handloading and airborne lead particles when shooting. It also means you no longer have to scrape out built-up wax lube from your seating and crimping dies.

What do they coat lead bullets with?

Traditional lead bullets are cast (left) or swaged (right). Both are lubed with a waxy lube. Another method is to coat the bullets with a non-waxy lubricating compound such as nylon, molybdenum disulfide (moly), polymer and other compound. Moly coated pistol bullets have been around for a while, so it’s not new.

Can you remove Moly coating from bullets?

It may not remove all the moly, but whatever’s left on the bullets won’t matter much at all. I have soaked moly coated bullets overnight in a strong solution of Dawn dishwashing liquid , shaking the jar at intervals then rubbing /drying in a towel then tumbling in corn media to remove the moly.

Do you have to lube coated bullets?

As you load bullets there is no lube to creep up the seating die and change the seating depth on the bullet. When you fire coated bullets there is no lube to burn so they make much less smoke. And after you have fired the round (or 500 rounds) the barrel is cleaner.

Why do you gas check bullets?

A gas check is a gasket type component of firearms ammunition. Gas checks are used when non-jacketed bullets are used in high pressure cartridges. The use of a gas check inhibits the buildup of lead in the barrel and improves accuracy.

How fast can you shoot coated bullets?

They perform well at mid velocities or higher end lead velocities but can be rather expensive to shoot and can wear your barrel out faster. Plated bullets also have speed restrictions of less than 1,500 fps.

What is Moly coating?

Moly coating is a combination of molybdenum disulfide lubricant and high performance resins. Molybdenum Disulfide coatings are thermally cured and thoroughly bonded to the base metal of the coated part.

What is bullet coating?

There are three common bullet coatings: Molybdenum Disulfide (Moly), Tungsten Disulfide (WS2 or Danzac), and Hexagonal Boron Nitride (HBN or “White Graphite”). All three products have very low coefficients of friction, and, when applied correctly, all three will do the job.

Do coated bullets prevent leading?

What are the benefits of Hihi-Tek bullet coating?

Hi-Tek Bullet Coating 1 No lead is exposed to the environment 2 Leading of the bore is dramatically reduced, as is lube smoke 3 Higher velocities can be attained with coated bullets 4 Health benefits for the reloader, as there is no touching of bare lead 5 Reduced force required to seat and crimp because the bullets are slippery

Is Tek bullet coatin G A two part epoxy?

Hi Tek Bullet Coatin g is either a two part epoxy if you purchase the powder, or a three part system if you purchase the liquid (Acetone or MEK is required for thinning). I purchased both with the intent to see which one I liked more. For this application we stuck with the liquid product.

What is Hihi-performance bullet coating?

Hi-Performance Bullet Coatings offers Hi-Tek Heat Set “Super Coat” Bullet Coating Kits for the home caster and commercial bullet caster. The future of cast bullet lubrication is here.

What is the best way to seat Hi-Tek coated bullets?

1. Flare case mouths enough so the lubricant is not scraped off during the seating station. I have found that when seating the hi-tek coated bullets it is very easy to scrap some of the coating off, and it is extremely difficult to clean-up after doing so.
