Our vision is to have a local community that is passionate about and protects the animals around them. And this is only possible with the wildlife orphanage. Indeed, without seeing the animals, touching them and caring for them, the children would not find their passion for animals and the environment.

We face many challenges in our area, such as poaching, poor education and pollution. South Africa’s large underprivileged population results in overcrowding of schools, where individual classes sometimes exceed 60 children per class.

At DAKTARI, we created a community program to increase our impact to a larger number of people. Therefore, we are able to actively engage with the nearby local villages. We achieve this thanks to our two main programs: the Outreach Campaigns and the Eco Club. We also organise tours for volunteers in the villages.

ENGAGING WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES As a volunteer, you will many opportunities to get involved with the local communities around DAKTARI. Twice a week, DAKTARI hosts ECO Club’s at a local school. The ECO CLUB is a voluntary after-school club that the children attend to learn more about the environment.
